“Do you want me to keep it?” -Trophy Wife

This rat ran down to Mercury Lounge last night to see the last show of Glom’s A Thousand Dreams tour. With unforgettable support from Trophy Wife, it was the kind of evening that reminds of all the promises of summer. This is what we experienced.
We’re no stranger to Trophy Wife, you can read our interview and past show reviews with them HERE. We were so in the moment enjoying their set that we completely forgot to take notes for the first half. There’s a special dynamic within Trophy Wife. They’re not a band where the spotlight shines on one member, they’re a team of all-stars. The musical possibilities this creates are endless. You could put their live set to tape and it would be a ready record. We turned to look at the faces of the crowd at one point and many were awestruck. They played their new single Keep It coming out June 6th. Pre-save it here or get bent.
Hordes of people showed up for Glom during changeover. We showed up in total ignorance of them, by choice. We had never heard a Glom song before this and didn’t want to, to save our first experience for the real thing. Mercury Lounge knew how to hype the moment, putting on Nirvana’s Love Buzz over the PA at one point. Crazy story behind that song, look it up.
The house was packed for Glom, a triumphant end of a tour. They played a bunch of songs from their new record Below, out in September. This band was a power washer of sound. Bass dug deep, guitar could squeal acrobatically, drumming was reliable and hit hard, and these songs were catchy. They were a fish hook expertly hidden with your favorite snack attached. Gotcha. They even played a few covers, Sonic Youth’s Incinerate as well as a spiked version of Peter Bjorn and John’s Young Folks. It was a Glom world in there.
It was all over by 10, but the Glom Globe keeps spinning. If you missed it, connect with these bands on social media below to be at their next show!
